The two-time Olympic gold medalist and marathon world record holder has won titles in Berlin, London, Tokyo and Chicago – four of the world’s six marathon majors – and is the favorite in the elite men’s race in Boston. He has four London titles and four Berlin victories in addition to his 2022 triumphs in Chicago and Tokyo and has declared his wish to become the first able bodied athlete to win all six Abbott World Marathon Majors.Eliud Kipchoge can further his status as one of – if not the – greatest distance runners of all time when he makes his Boston Marathon debut on Monday. His first official world record came at the 2018 BMW BERLIN-MARATHON when his time of 2:01:39 made him the first man to break the 2:02 barrier. He made his marathon debut with victory in Chicago in 2015 and has only lost twice over 26.2-miles in 15 starts. He also earned Olympic bronze and silver over the same distance in 20. Kipchoge turned to the marathon after a track career that brought him gold in the 2003 5000m World Championships and silver in Osaka in 2007. In the specially-designed INEOS 1:59 project in 2019, he ran 1:59:40 on a short, looped circuit in Vienna, Austria, using a team of interchangeable pacers and laser technology.
